BWI’s solidarity letter to Lee Cheuk-Yan
As the global trade union movement celebrates this month the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson penned a letter to Lee Cheuk-Yan, Hong Kong trade union leader and General Secretary of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions.
Yuson expressed BWI’s continuing solidarity and support to Lee, and the Hong Kong trade unions’ struggle for democracy.
Lee was one of the 15 Hong Kong democracy leaders arrested on suspicion of organising, and/or taking part in several mass actions in Hong Kong in 2019. On 1 April 2021, Lee was convicted, along with six other democracy activists. He was sentenced to 14 months in jail on 16 April 2021.
