BWI and Danish federation forge stronger ties in Africa and Middle East
Denmark's biggest union, The United Federation of Danish Workers (3F), led by Tina Christensen, Vice President, Jesper Nielsen, Head of International Cooperation, Soren Orlof Frandsen, Political Adviser, Bjorn Haar, Regional Coordinator and Representative for Southern and Eastern Africa, and Ncedo Ngcama, Program Office, paid a visit to BWI’s Africa and Middle East Regional Office last 16 March. Focused on exchanging developmental insights and establishing this year's cooperation, the meeting gave both organisations the chance to catch up on the latest political and economic events and discuss possibilities of new collaborations on top of existing ones.
BWI and 3F also discussed better ways to organise new workers (including those working in the informal sector), rising youth unemployment, improving the economic standing of migrant workers, climate change and "just transition,” and ways to secures above-decent collective bargaining agreements in the region.
BWI Regional Representative Crecentia Mofokeng, speaking on behalf of BWI General Secretary Ambet Yuson, welcomed the progress made over the previous year between BWI and 3F in the region and urged both organisations to work more closely to come up with more innovative responses to safeguard workers' rights and ensure their sustainable future.
