ASD Laminate continues to bust union in Turkey

 

Around 180 members of the BWI-affiliated Turkish Wood and Paper Industry Workers’ Union (AGAC-IS) were illegally dismissed by ASD Laminat as part of the company’s retaliatory move after the union won a recent court decision affirming its right to organise and collectively bargain. Read more...

The Global Unions reiterate their commitment to pursue Global Compact on Migration (GCM) implementation strategies that promote social, racial, gender, economic and climate justice. We stand ready to work with states to advance a new social contract, and an inclusive recovery that puts people over profit. We therefore express our disappointment that the Progress Declaration on the implementation of the GCM fails to include a strong commitment to international labour standards that are fundamental to ensuring that migrant workers’ human and labour rights are respected. The Progress Declaration was adopted today by governments convened at the First UN International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) from 17-20 May.

On 19 April 2022 more than twenty leaders and activists of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions (BKDP) were detained by the State Security Committee. While some of them were released afterwards, at least ten are still in custody, including the BKDP President, ITUC Vice-President and ILO Governing Body member Aliaksandr Yarashuk, and BKDP Vice-President Siarhei Antusevich.
