Germany: Meeting on the implementation of the IFA with Wilkhahn

A coordination meeting of the Monitoring Committee under the International Framework Agreement with Wilkhahn took place on 28 October 2019 in Wilkhahn’s headquarters in Bad Münder, Germany. 

Wikhahn is an internationally recognized for premium-brand, superbly designed and innovative sustainable office furniture; developing and manufacturing conference chairs and table solutions; and  activating swivel chairs and flexible furniture for ad-hoc meetings and workshops, rooted in the Bauhaus design principles of modernism. 

The company was founded in 1907 and today employs 465 people worldwide. For the self-financed, family-run company with a strong international approach, the IFA (Social Charta) signed in 2009 plays a key role in ensuring worldwide workers’ rights and respecting ILO Core Labour Standards against the backdrop of the company’s increasingly global activities. 

The company’s management was represented by Mr. Torsten Staude, Chief Technical Officer (CTO and member of Board) and Jörg Hoffmann, Sustainability Manager, while Ralf Olaf Stender represented the company’s Works Council in Germany. The IG Metall was represented by Michael Knoche, IG Metall Department for Transnational Trade Union Policy, and Jasmin Redzepovic represented BWI.

During the meeting the company’s economic situation and the conditions of workers in its production facilities at the headquarters in Bad Münder, Germany; Poznan, Poland and Sydney, Australia were discussed. 

Moreover, brief information was provided on the internal audits conducted at Wilkhahn and its suppliers. A visit to the production facility with random interviews with workers on site concluded the fruitful meeting.

The next external audit will be in May 2020 at the production facility in Poznan, Poland.
